In this high-impact product engineering role, you'll work across the full technical stack - from Python backend data modeling and APIs to React/TypeScript web interfaces and React Native mobile apps. You'll collaborate with Product Managers, Data Scientists, Designers, and Marketing to deliver revenue-generating features that power Discord's mission. Recent launches include exclusive Nitro profile bundles, Halloween shop promotions, enhanced server boosting perks, Marvel Rivals profile items, and Discord Orbs. Key Responsibilities
- Architect and build premium features across Nitro subscriptions, Discord shop, server boosting systems, and user profile customization
- Lead end-to-end project ownership from requirements gathering with Product teams to technical specification creation and delivery
- Partner closely with Design to translate pixel-perfect mockups into production-ready React and React Native experiences
- Ship cross-platform features simultaneously to Web (React/TypeScript), Android (React Native/Kotlin), and iOS (React Native/Swift)
- Drive complex technical initiatives in ambiguous environments, making critical architecture decisions
- Rapidly prototype new revenue features and design A/B experiments to validate user engagement
- Develop scalable backend services in Python, including data models, business logic APIs, and payment integrations
- Optimize user-facing premium surfaces for maximum conversion and subscriber retention
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Data Science for experiment analysis and Marketing for launch strategies
- Maintain premium experience quality without compromising the free Discord core product
- Mentor junior engineers and conduct technical code reviews
- Contribute to Discord's engineering blog and share technical insights publicly
Qualifications
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience as a technical leader
- Proven track record leading projects that significantly impacted team roadmaps
- Expert proficiency in React and React Native for web and mobile development
- Strong Python backend development experience with API design and data modeling
- Experience with TypeScript, Kotlin, Objective-C, or Swift in production environments
- Demonstrated product sense with deep empathy for consumer user experiences
- Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments with unclear requirements
- Experience prototyping features and running user experiments
- Cross-functional collaboration experience with PM, Design, Data Science teams
- Passion for gaming and understanding of Discord's gamer audience
- Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical stakeholders
Salary & Benefits
Salary Range: $180,000 - $260,000 USD annually (depending on experience and location), plus equity and comprehensive benefits package.
