Role Overview

The Distribution & Planning Lead position at Britos Bakery in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, is a pivotal role within PepsiCo South Africa's dynamic supply chain operations. This full-time leadership position focuses on managing daily distribution activities, secondary fleet operations, and key account staff to ensure seamless product delivery across outlets. Reporting to senior logistics management, you will drive operational excellence, customer satisfaction, and compliance in a fast-paced FMCG environment.

As a key player in our bakeries division, you will optimize distribution processes, maintain fleet standards, and foster team performance to support PepsiCo's market leadership in convenient foods.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will deliver measurable results through hands-on management of distribution and planning functions. Core accountabilities include:

  • Managing daily operations of distribution activities, secondary fleet vehicles, and staff to ensure on-time, in-full stock deliveries.
  • Overseeing key account staff (drivers and van assistants) for peak performance and adherence to schedules.
  • Maintaining all vehicles in roadworthy condition and coordinating maintenance with route controllers.
  • Liaising with customers at store management level to manage transport, collections, and deliveries.
  • Controlling stock despatch for full accountability, POD processes with zero outstanding daily, and resolving customer POD challenges.
  • Handling stock shortages, claims, and disciplining non-compliant staff per company policies.
  • Approving route-end cycle counts, participating in warehouse cycle counts, and reviewing distribution processes.
  • Reporting accidents and incidents promptly, managing industrial relations, and developing/motivating delivery teams.
  • Promoting EHS (Environment, Health, Safety) and Food Safety requirements across operations.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed, candidates need a strong foundation in logistics and proven FMCG experience:

  • Logistics or Supply Chain Diploma/Degree.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in warehousing and distribution within a unionised environment.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and SAP or equivalent ERP systems.
  • Essential FMCG and Food Safety distribution experience.

Key competencies include good communication skills, strong analytical abilities, drive for results, out-of-the-box thinking, and demonstrated team leadership in matrix organizations. Flexibility, ambiguity management, and unionised environment savvy are critical.
