The Fleet Mechanic II at Dollar General ensures all fleet vehicles meet federal standards and operate at peak performance. Based in Jackson, Georgia, you'll work in our state-of-the-art maintenance facility, performing inspections, repairs, and diagnostics on diesel engines, electrical systems, brakes, and more. Key Responsibilities

• Demonstrate proficiency in inspecting, repairing, and diagnosing diesel engines, powertrains (differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, wheel ends), with minimal assistance.
• Perform electrical system repairs, including starters, alternators, lights, ECMs, ECUs, and sensors; conduct cooling system maintenance and full vehicle diagnostics.
• Execute preventive maintenance (PMs) on tractors, trailers, and yard equipment, including routine technical repairs and completing detailed repair orders.
• Repair and maintain brake systems (ABS and air disk brakes), suspension systems (spring and air), HVAC, steering, and after-treatment devices like DPF and DOC.
• Conduct DOT inspections to ensure FMCSA compliance and federal standards.
• Safely operate gauges, forklifts, shunt trucks, torches, grinders, and various hand/power tools.
• Assist drivers with vehicle issues, maximize safety/reliability on all fleet assets including lift-gates.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and adhere to all company policies.
• Use fleet maintenance software to track repairs and inventory.
• Troubleshoot hydraulic, air brake, and electronic systems for Class A trucks and trailers.
• Collaborate with team members to minimize downtime and support distribution operations.

Qualifications

To succeed as a Fleet Mechanic II, candidates need:

• 2+ years of diesel maintenance repair experience, preferably in fleet or heavy-duty trucking.
• Broad knowledge of FMCSA standards, fleet policies, and industry best practices.
• Heavy diesel truck/trailer mechanic skills, including air brakes, hydraulics, and electrics.
• Ability to work unsupervised, make quick decisions, and communicate effectively.
• Experience with trailer maintenance software is a plus.
• Physical ability to lift 50+ lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in varying conditions.
• Valid CDL or willingness to obtain; clean driving record.
• Team-oriented mindset with a safety-first approach.
