As principal investigator, manage project scopes, schedules, and risks, while mentoring talent and building partnerships with academia, national labs, and industry consortia to accelerate innovation in aircraft electrical architectures, energy storage, and thermal management. Eaton's Aerospace Electrification initiatives emphasize ethical innovation, prioritizing safety, compliance, and second-chance employment practices. You will influence roadmaps for hybrid-electric propulsion and more-electric aircraft, conducting modeling, prototyping, and validation to meet stringent aerospace standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Create and define research and technology-focused themes in Aerospace Electrification, participating in technology investment strategy and leading complex global technology realization programs
  • Collaborate with Global Technology Directors (GTDs) across Eaton to define technical competencies, capabilities, lab requirements, and attract top technical talent
  • Develop emerging Energy Systems research programs based on breakthrough technologies for energy transition, reliability, and efficiency in aerospace
  • Advance state-of-the-art energy and power systems, identifying and pursuing commercialization opportunities with Eaton’s global businesses
  • Own technical leadership through aerospace electrification roadmaps and collaboration with multi-disciplinary, globally distributed teams
  • Identify program/project risks and influence stakeholders to make informed pivot, persevere, or kill decisions
  • Influence, resolve, and communicate major changes in projects or program achievements to cross-functional teams at all levels
  • Coordinate and influence research focus of partnering university consortiums and national lab initiatives as a recognized global authority
  • Serve as principal investigator on key projects, developing schedules, defining scope, costs, technical targets, and preparing reports
  • Build and maintain relationships with external technical communities including academia, national labs, government agencies, and industry groups
  • Mentor staff, consult with internal stakeholders and customers, and drive strong business cases for new commercial applications and funding acquisition

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum 15 years of professional experience, including significant time in the aerospace electrification industry
  • Proven experience working on government proposals, programs, or contracts within an organization
  • U.S. person status required (U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) due to access to export-controlled information
  • Expertise in aerospace propulsion or power systems
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineering groups and mentor talent in developing concepts and prototypes
  • Track record of developing proposals and securing government-funded programs in transportation electrification

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD from an accredited institution in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Experience as a Principal Investigator in a research setting
