About the Role

Join eBay's Compliance Engineering team in Bengaluru as an AI/ML Software Engineer, where you'll play a pivotal role in safeguarding the world's leading e-commerce marketplace. This team develops cutting-edge AI-driven tools and scalable systems to automatically detect prohibited, restricted, counterfeit, and non-compliant items across eBay's platform serving millions of buyers and sellers in 190+ markets. By leveraging machine learning models, Gen AI, LLMs, and rules-based engines, you'll ensure regulatory compliance, maintain customer trust, and protect the integrity of eBay's global trading community. In this role, you'll build large-scale applications, low-latency APIs, and data pipelines using technologies like Java, Scala, Python, Spark, Flink, Kafka, and the Hadoop ecosystem. You'll design metadata-driven platforms for seamless integration of policies and models, while developing production-grade AI/ML solutions to generate actionable insights that enhance buyer and seller experiences. Partnering with architects and business leaders, you'll drive strategies that reinvent e-commerce compliance for a safe, fair marketplace. With 3-5+ years of experience, you'll own the full software lifecycle—from design and experimentation to deployment and optimization—while mentoring junior engineers. Key Responsibilities

• Build large-scale applications, low-latency APIs, data pipelines, and foundational architectures for eBay's marketplace operations
• Design highly configurable, metadata-driven platforms for seamless ingestion of attributes, rules, models, policies, and aggregates
• Develop machine learning models and Gen AI tools to detect prohibited, restricted, and counterfeit items on eBay
• Implement scalable backend systems using sophisticated data models and rules-based engines for compliance detection
• Partner with architects, business leaders, and industry experts to create strategies for marketplace trust and safety
• Manage the entire software lifecycle including design, development, testing, and experimentation
• Optimize large-scale data solutions using Spark, Flink, Kafka, and Hadoop ecosystem
• Improve customer experiences by generating insights from AI/ML models across eBay's global platform
• Mentor and lead junior team members in the Compliance Engineering team
• Ensure eBay's marketplace adheres to regulations, internal policies, and trade compliance standards

Required Qualifications

• Technical degree with 3-5+ years of relevant software development experience
• Strong hands-on Machine Learning experience including AI/ML/Gen AI and LLMs
• Proven experience building and running AI/ML/GenAI models in production environments
• Outstanding programming skills in Java, Scala, and Python
• Hands-on experience with PyTorch and TensorFlow frameworks
• Experience with APIs, Distributed Systems, RESTful APIs, and GraphQL
• Practical experience with Spark, Flink, and Kafka technologies
• Strong understanding of SQL, NoSQL, and sophisticated data modeling techniques

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Hadoop ecosystem including HDFS, MapReduce, Hive, and Spark
• Background in e-commerce compliance, fraud detection, or marketplace risk management
• Proven track record in developing low-latency APIs and scalable data pipelines
• Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading technical projects
• Knowledge of rules-based engines and metadata-driven platforms
