About the Role

As a Data Scientist in eBay's Trust team based in Bengaluru, India, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding and enhancing the trust ecosystem of the world's leading e-commerce marketplace. eBay empowers millions of buyers and sellers across 190+ markets, and the Trust team focuses on critical areas like seller protections, buyer feedback, Money Back Guarantee, and performance policies to maintain a safe, reliable platform. In this dynamic role, you will partner with Trust, Product, Engineering, and Design teams to leverage data-driven insights, predictive analytics, and scalable infrastructure for measurable improvements in customer experience and business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive strategic insights by applying analytics processes to influence Trust organization leaders and secure long-term solutions
  • Analyze key issues to identify opportunities for improving buyer and seller trust and customer experience on eBay's marketplace
  • Develop and define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track user trust experience
  • Monitor KPIs to diagnose underlying causes of metric movements and platform performance
  • Define business objectives, measure progress, and ensure accountability for results
  • Lead complex projects focused on enhancing customer experience and delivering top- and bottom-line impact for eBay
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Trust, Product Management, Engineering, and Design teams
  • Use predictive analytics to guide marketplace decisions aligned with eBay's goals
  • Develop infrastructure and operational strategies for scalability across Trust focus areas
  • Integrate data insights into operational strategies adapting to market and economic changes
  • Foster a culture of goal achievement within the Trust organization

Required Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree with 5+ years of relevant experience in Quantitative Research, Analytics, or Data Science (or Masters/PhD with 3+ years)
  • Proficiency in programming languages including Python or R
  • Strong SQL skills for data querying and analysis
  • Experience in data analysis to recognize trends and implications for decision-making
  • Proven problem-solving skills with creativity in complex scenarios
  • Track record of delivering results in challenging situations
  • Experience advocating for the customer voice and synthesizing diverse views
  • Ability to communicate data insights effectively to senior executives

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in marketplace Trust operations
  • Background in e-commerce products
  • Experience working at a leading technology company
  • Ability to present complex analyses in simple terms
  • Familiarity with Natural Language Processing (NLP)
