About the Role

As a Machine Learning Engineer Tech Leader (T26) on eBay's Product Knowledge team in Bengaluru, you'll drive the core of eBay's tech-driven, customer-centric transformation. This role centers on eBay's vast Product Knowledge system—a big data powerhouse of listings, transactions, products, and knowledge graphs powering global ecommerce across 190+ markets. You'll lead the design and deployment of ML models and pipelines processing billions of items, enabling low-latency search, personalized recommendations, and intelligent matching for millions of buyers and sellers.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, deliver, and maintain significant features in data pipelines, ML processing, and service infrastructure for eBay's Product Knowledge system
• Optimize software performance to achieve required throughput and latency on datasets of hundreds of millions to billions of e-commerce items
• Build pipelines processing billions of listings, transactions, and products, employing ML models
• Create low-latency services for Search and Information Retrieval on massive marketplace datasets
• Craft sound API designs and drive integration between data layers and customer-facing eBay applications
• Design and run A/B tests in production to measure impact of new ML-driven ecommerce functionalities
• Work with managers, peers, and Product Managers to scope projects, features, and technical strategies
• Lead cross-team efforts, owning business problems and ensuring coherent technical solutions across eBay teams
• Develop technical strategies considering project goals, timelines, and business impact on global commerce
• Actively participate in knowledge sharing, teaching and learning within eBay's engineering community
• Tackle complex optimization problems in eBay's big data systems supporting 190+ markets

Required Qualifications

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
• 7+ years of software design and development experience in backend services and/or data pipelines
• Solid foundation in Data Structures, Algorithms, Object-Oriented Programming, Software Design/Architecture, and core Statistics
• Production-grade coding experience in Java, and Python/Scala
• Experience in designing and operating Big Data processing pipelines such as Hadoop and Spark
• Experience in close examination of data, computation of statistics, and deriving data insights
• Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills
• Passion and commitment for technical excellence

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience deploying Machine Learning models in production pipelines processing billions of items
• Knowledge of Information Retrieval, Search capabilities, and low-latency services on massive datasets
• Experience with A/B testing in production environments for e-commerce features
• Familiarity with knowledge graphs, product catalogs, and eBay's marketplace data ecosystems
• Background in e-commerce tech, handling listings, transactions, and buyer-seller interactions
• Proven track record leading cross-team efforts in big data and ML for global platforms
