About the Role

eBay's Patents & Open Source team is seeking a Patent Drafting Attorney/Agent in Bengaluru, India, to scale an AI-assisted drafting program protecting innovations in AI/ML, marketplace experiences, trust & safety, and seller success. This hybrid role involves drafting high-quality patent applications using cutting-edge AI tools, translating complex e-commerce technologies into defensible claims, and leading prosecution strategies across global jurisdictions including U.S., Europe, and Asia. You'll operationalize AI workflows with robust quality controls while partnering with inventors and product teams to guide protection paths amid eBay's mission to reinvent global ecommerce for millions of users.

Key Responsibilities

• Draft high-quality patent applications using AI-assisted drafting tools for software, AI/ML, data systems, marketplaces, and UX inventions
• Translate complex technical solutions into clear, defensible claims at speed and scale
• Lead AI-enabled prosecution tasks including claim strategy, office actions, and allowance analysis
• Operationalize prompt engineering, pattern libraries, and document pipelines for AI drafting
• Establish quality controls, fact verification, and confidentiality safeguards
• Partner with IPSC process to evaluate invention disclosures and guide protection paths (patent, trade secret, open source, defensive publication)
• Coordinate global filing strategy across U.S., Europe, and Asia for business-critical inventions
• Educate inventors and product/tech teams on AI-enabled patentability assessments and risks
• Contribute to forward invention sessions tied to eBay's company initiatives in AI/ML, marketplace experiences, trust, and seller success
• Align international prosecution with eBay's global IP portfolio objectives

Required Qualifications

• Significant experience drafting and prosecuting software/AI/e-commerce patents with strong claim craftsmanship
• Technical background in CS/EE or related field
• 8–12+ years of relevant experience in patent law
• Hands-on proficiency with AI drafting workflows including prompt design, pattern libraries, and output evaluation
• Demonstrated use of modern patent tools to accelerate high-quality application drafting
• Strong written advocacy, strategic prosecution judgment, and docket ownership
• Track record of timely outcomes and portfolio value creation
• Licensed as Patent Attorney or Agent eligible to practice before relevant patent offices

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Level 26 impact and scope in patent work at tech companies
• Comfort engaging senior engineers, data scientists, and product leaders on AI/ML and marketplace systems
• Knowledge of global filing strategies across U.S., Europe, and Asia
• Background in e-commerce, trust & safety, or seller tools innovations
• Familiarity with IPSC processes for invention disclosures
• Experience operationalizing AI tools for legal workflows with quality controls
