Key Responsibilities

  • Lead design, development, and launch of key backend features and subsystems for eBay's ecommerce platform with high autonomy
  • Drive technical standards and best practices in security, scalability, reliability, and performance for marketplace services
  • Own entire functional areas, mapping complex ecommerce business problems to robust production solutions
  • Express technical risks, trade-offs, and influence design and product decisions at team and cross-team levels
  • Ensure production ramp-up, observability, and operational readiness; proactively resolve system-wide issues
  • Lead code reviews, technical discussions, and mentorship for junior engineers
  • Design and implement APIs, data models, and end-to-end testing for buyer-seller features
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and partner teams to deliver features impacting ecommerce outcomes
  • Take ownership of incident response and production support for functional domains
  • Contribute to architecture evolution, refactoring, CI/CD improvements, and developer productivity

Required Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency in Java or Kotlin
  • 5+ years of professional backend engineering experience including leadership in feature areas or subsystems
  • Demonstrated mastery of SOLID principles, OOP, multithreading, and data modeling
  • Deep experience with system design, architectural decision-making, and trade-off analysis
  • Proven track record of technical ownership of entire features or domains
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Strong skills in unit test coverage, CI/CD best practices, code reviews, and documentation
  • Experience in scoping and splitting large project deliverables into actionable tasks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with databases such as MongoDB, PostgreSQL, or Elasticsearch
  • Comfortable with AWS, infrastructure-as-code (Pulumi, Terraform)
