About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer in eBay's Data Platform Engineering group in Bengaluru, you'll architect and scale innovative infrastructure powering global data flows, real-time insights, and inventory mapping for eBay's vast e-commerce marketplace serving 190+ countries. Drive large-scale data acquisition, ETL pipelines, and microservices that ensure reliable, actionable data for buyers, sellers, and business decisions, enhancing platform authenticity and economic opportunity worldwide. Key to this role is building resilient distributed systems using Java, Spark, Kafka, and Kubernetes, optimizing for high-volume e-commerce data from diverse sources. You'll collaborate across global teams in India, US, China, and Europe, contributing to dashboards, monitoring, and incident response that sustain eBay's cutting-edge commerce platform. Key Responsibilities

  • Architect, develop, and maintain backend services and distributed systems for large-scale data collection, processing, and reporting
  • Design and optimize ETL pipelines for diverse data sources enabling eBay inventory mapping and enrichment
  • Build, monitor, and troubleshoot microservices, data crawling tools, and plugins for cloud-native deployments
  • Implement advanced extraction and mapping frameworks using modern tech stacks for clean, actionable e-commerce data
  • Ensure platform reliability, scalability with incident response, monitoring, and technical upgrades
  • Contribute to customer-facing portals and dashboards for data workflow configuration and management
  • Collaborate globally with engineering, product, and analytics teams across India, US, China, Europe
  • Participate in release management, code reviews, operations, and knowledge sharing
  • Guide peers in troubleshooting, system design, DevOps, and cloud pipeline architecture
  • Drive platform features supporting eBay's marketplace reliability and business decision-making

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Professional experience in large-scale data systems and backend software engineering
  • Strong proficiency in Java (Spring Boot), Groovy, Python
  • Hands-on experience with databases including MongoDB, MySQL, Oracle, Hive
  • Experience building scalable data analysis workflows and inventory mapping systems
  • Expertise in distributed computing frameworks like Spark and Hadoop
  • Proven ability in incident management, code reviews, and cloud-native troubleshooting
  • Experience collaborating in global cross-functional teams with technical mentorship
