About the Role

As the Shipping Director of Engineering at eBay, you will lead the technical vision and execution for our global shipping platforms, powering seamless experiences for millions of buyers and sellers across 190 markets. In this senior leadership role based in Bengaluru, India, you will drive the architecture, scalability, and reliability of shipping systems that handle tens of billions in transactions, aligning engineering efforts with eBay's mission to reinvent ecommerce for enthusiasts. Collaborate with product, design, and operations teams to deliver innovative solutions that enhance logistics efficiency, reduce delivery times, and support our $75B+ gross merchandise volume.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and drive long-term technical vision, roadmap, and architecture for Shipping engineering
• Align engineering strategy with eBay's ecommerce business goals and product vision
• Lead, mentor, and grow multiple Engineering Managers and Team Leads
• Oversee hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development of engineering staff
• Foster a high-performing, collaborative, innovative, and inclusive engineering culture
• Oversee planning, execution, and delivery of complex software projects across teams
• Establish and optimize engineering processes including SDLC, Agile/Scrum, and incident response
• Partner with Product Management, Design, Data Science, and Security for successful delivery
• Provide technical oversight, champion quality, SLOs, and scalability for shipping systems
• Manage technical debt, budgets, resource allocation, and key performance indicators
• Track delivery velocity, quality, and system health metrics
• Represent engineering in cross-functional meetings and strategic discussions

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of software engineering experience
• 5+ years in direct people management
• 3+ years managing other managers
• Master's degree in Computer Science or Bachelor's with equivalent experience
• Proven ability to lead, inspire, mentor, and grow large engineering teams
• Significant hands-on technical background in software development, architecture, and systems design
• Track record of shipping complex, high-quality software products at scale using Agile methodologies
• Exceptional communication skills to articulate technical concepts to executives and stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in ECommerce industry
• Experience in Shipping and logistics domain
• Experience scaling engineering organizations during rapid growth
• Expertise in building scalable systems for global marketplaces
• Background in high-volume transaction processing platforms
