About the Role

Join eBay's Risk team as a Software Engineer 2 in Bengaluru, where you'll design and build cutting-edge distributed systems to safeguard our global e-commerce marketplace serving millions of buyers and sellers across 190+ countries. This role focuses on creating high-security, high-availability products that detect fraud, analyze suspicious patterns, and mitigate emerging threats, ensuring a trusted platform for economic opportunity worldwide. Collaborate with architects, product managers, policy owners, compliance, and trust & safety teams to innovate risk solutions that handle massive transaction volumes.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build distributed systems with high security, high transaction rates, and high availability for eBay's Risk platform
• Collaborate with architects to define the technical charter for eBay’s fraud prevention and risk mitigation products
• Work with product, policy, compliance, and trust & safety teams to create a secure eBay marketplace
• Partner with stakeholders across locations to clarify requirements and deliver business solutions
• Champion standard software development methodologies, including AI-assisted code development
• Identify suspicious patterns and analyze data to prevent fraud in eBay's global e-commerce ecosystem
• Develop innovative products that respond to emerging threats in high-volume buyer-seller transactions
• Improve system performance by resolving bottlenecks in distributed Risk systems
• Build scalable applications handling millions of transactions across 190+ markets
• Ensure high availability of critical systems protecting eBay buyers and sellers

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Science, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience
• At least 2.5 years of software development experience
• Strong foundation in computer science including data structures, algorithms, and software design
• Hands-on experience in Java, Node.js, Spring Boot, or similar object-oriented language for scalable applications
• Experience developing data-driven applications using RDBMS and NoSQL databases
• Strong knowledge and experience with large-scale distributed systems
• Experience resolving bottlenecks and improving system performance in distributed environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Python
• Experience with DevOps and observability tools like Prometheus or equivalent OLAP tools
• Excellent knowledge of architectural and design patterns, open-source platforms, and frameworks
• Experience championing AI in code development and delivery
• Proven track record working with global cross-functional teams
