About the Role

Join eBay’s Segmentation team as a Senior Software Engineer (T24) in Bengaluru, India, where you'll design and deliver resilient network segmentation services that protect mission-critical commerce traffic powering eBay's global ecommerce platform across 190+ markets. Owning subsystems in control and data planes, you'll integrate cutting-edge SDN/CNI technologies like Istio, Envoy, Calico, and Cilium with Linux networking primitives to ensure secure, scalable connectivity for millions of buyers and sellers. This role demands driving solutions from design to production, enhancing engineering excellence, and collaborating with Product, SRE, Security, and Cloud teams to reinvent ecommerce infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement efficient, extensible, and maintainable solutions for eBay's network segmentation platform safeguarding commerce traffic
• Own multiple subsystems in the control plane and data plane, ensuring reliability and scalability across multi-cloud environments
• Translate feature requests into design options, provide accurate estimations, and implement practical solutions
• Integrate with SDN/CNI technologies (Istio/Envoy/Calico/Cilium) and Linux networking primitives (iptables/nftables, routing, BGP, VXLAN)
• Proactively identify design/code issues, propose improvements, and drive resolution within the team
• Implement test automation and CI/CD pipelines (Go testing, Ginkgo/Gomega) for high-quality code delivery
• Participate in incident response by debugging Kubernetes workloads and networking issues, contributing to postmortems
• Document features and release notes to support operational readiness and knowledge sharing
• Collaborate with stakeholders (Product, SRE, Security, Cloud) on roadmap items for eBay's global ecommerce platform
• Participate in team interviews, mentorship, and knowledge sharing through brown bags or talks

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years in backend or systems engineering
• 2+ years in Golang building distributed services or controllers
• Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, Linux networking, and Kubernetes fundamentals
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes controllers/Operators/CRDs (client-go, reconcile patterns)
• Solid debugging and troubleshooting skills across distributed systems, networking, and containers
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and test automation practices
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Proven track record of owning and delivering subsystems in production environments

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with SDN/CNI (Calico, Cilium, OVS/OVN) and service mesh (Istio/Envoy)
• Familiarity with eBPF, OPA/Gatekeeper, or multi-cluster controllers
• Knowledge of distributed data stores (etcd, SQL, NoSQL) and eventing systems (Kafka, PubSub, SQS)
• Exposure to observability tools (metrics, logging, tracing, OpenTelemetry)
• Contribution to open source initiatives or industry conferences
