About the Role

Join eBay's Product Knowledge team as a Software Engineering Architect T28 in Bengaluru, India, where you'll architect the backbone of eBay's vast Big Data ecosystem powering global e-commerce. This role sits at the heart of eBay's tech-driven transformation, managing systems that process billions of listings, transactions, products, and knowledge graphs to connect millions of buyers and sellers across 190+ markets. You'll design scalable data pipelines integrating ML models, low-latency search services for massive datasets, and APIs bridging backend data to customer-facing marketplace apps, all while championing simplicity in complex e-commerce challenges.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect scalable data pipelines processing billions of eBay listings and transactions, integrating ML models
• Design low-latency search and IR services on datasets of hundreds of millions of items
• Craft API designs and drive integration between data layers and customer-facing e-commerce applications
• Design and run A/B tests in production to measure impact of new functionality on marketplace performance
• Architect and drive strategic evolution of data pipelines, ML frameworks, and service infrastructure
• Define and lead performance optimization strategies for critical eBay systems
• Collaborate on project scope and define long-term architectural vision for Product Knowledge platform
• Develop and champion technical strategies aligned with eBay's business objectives
• Lead cross-functional architectural initiatives ensuring coherent solutions across teams
• Establish and champion organization-wide knowledge sharing and best practices
• Handle complexity in Big Data systems involving listings, transactions, products, and knowledge graphs

Required Qualifications

• B.Sc. or M.Sc. in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience
• 8+ years of software design, architecture, and development experience tackling complex problems in backend services and/or data pipelines
• Solid foundation in Data Structures, Algorithms, Object-Oriented Programming, and Software Design
• Architectural expertise in production-grade systems using Java, Python/Scala
• Strategic design and operational leadership of large-scale Big Data processing pipelines (Hadoop, Spark)
• Proven ability to resolve complex architectural challenges in production software systems
• Executive-level communication and collaboration skills for influencing technical direction
• Passion and commitment for technical excellence

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience deploying Machine Learning models in e-commerce data pipelines
• Knowledge of low-latency search and information retrieval services on massive datasets
• Expertise in designing APIs for integration between data layers and customer-facing marketplace applications
• Experience running A/B tests in production for eBay-scale systems
• Background in knowledge graphs, product catalogs, and transaction data processing
• Familiarity with e-commerce challenges like scalability for billions of listings
