Position Summary

Join Sonoco as an EHS Coordinator in Mechelen, Belgium, serving as the key contact for environmental, health, and safety matters across our Belgian sites, with primary focus on Mechelen and support for Puurs and Brussels. In this pivotal role, you'll strengthen our safety culture, ensure regulatory compliance, translate policies into practical shop-floor solutions, guide colleagues and supervisors, and drive sustainability initiatives for a safer, healthier, future-oriented workplace.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and implement EHS legislation and internal guidelines.
  • Develop and coordinate safety and environmental procedures.
  • Organize training sessions, toolbox talks, and awareness campaigns.
  • Support supervisors in coaching teams on safety and well-being.
  • Analyze incidents, accidents, near-misses, and drive corrective actions.
  • Coordinate inspections, audits, and risk analyses.
  • Initiate sustainability projects on energy, waste, and emissions.
  • Report EHS performance to management and employees.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, preferably in technical or prevention-related field.
  • Recognized Prevention Advisor certificate (level 2 or 3), or willingness to obtain.
  • Experience in safety, health, or environment in production/industrial settings (a plus).
  • Strong communication skills to convince, coach, and motivate.
  • Analytical yet practical mindset for spotting and implementing improvements.
  • Fluency in Dutch and English.
