Canonical seeks an Engineering Manager for Ubuntu Hardware Certification Quality and Test Engineering, office-based in Taipei's Minsheng district, Taiwan. This leadership role drives the test suites validating hardware compatibility across Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server editions. Collaborate with top OEMs and ODMs including Advantech, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to pioneer automated validation using Canonical's open source frameworks and custom hardware. Shape the vision for seamless, secure Ubuntu out-of-the-box experiences on millions of devices, blending quality engineering, test automation, and team leadership in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Oversee the development and maintenance of Canonical's comprehensive hardware certification test suite, ensuring robust coverage for new and existing certified hardware platforms.
Drive timely delivery of certifications within hardware programs, coordinating with silicon vendors, OEMs, and internal teams to meet aggressive market timelines.
Recruit, coach, and mentor a distributed team of quality engineers, fostering skills development through hands-on guidance and career progression opportunities.
Pioneer open source test frameworks and CI/CD practices to automate hardware validation, continuously enhancing test coverage and reliability practices.
Set expectations with senior management, engineering leads, and partners; participate in code reviews, architectural planning, and strategy alignment.
Deep knowledge of low-level embedded software including BIOS, firmware, bootloaders, ACPI, devicetree, kernel, and RTOS. Strong grasp of Linux system architecture and quality/reliability engineering. Experience with Linux distributions, preferably Debian or Ubuntu.
Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field, backed by exceptional academic records. Proven track record in team leadership, mentorship, high-quality software delivery, and exceeding expectations.
Excellent professional English communication and presentation skills. Confident, curious, accountable, and result-oriented with passion for technology shown through personal projects. Ability to thrive in diverse, multi-national teams and travel internationally twice yearly for up to two weeks.
Familiarity with ARM, x86, RISC-V architectures; continuous integration/delivery tools; automated testing practices.
