Description

• Full STR profiling of crime scene, reference, cold case and other DNA samples as required across a range of routine and specialist techniques and technologies in accordance with good lab practice (GLP) and quality systems;
• Working as a super user and technical specialist for automated DNA processing line and LIMS;
• Completing analysis of DNA profiles using GeneMapper IDX software or Genoproof;
• End to end sample management, maintenance of chain of custody;
• General housekeeping: laboratory cleaning, maintenance of equipment and monitoring stock levels;
• Responsible for maintaining a first time right approach to work, reporting any non-conformances or near misses to the local quality systems and implementing process improvements;
• Proactive approach to Continuous Improvement (CI) within all aspects of the role; striving to improve output and efficiency of both scientific and support tasks;
• Communicate effectively to team members and team leads to ensure a smooth flow of work through the laboratory process;
• Work in accordance with Eurofins values of customer focus, competence and team spirit, quality and integrity.
• Location: 80% in Bruges (BE) and 20% in Maastricht (NL)

Qualifications

• Qualification in technical/life sciences;
• Experience of working in a high throughput, highly regulated environment;
• Experience of conducting DNA analysis, including extraction, quantification, PCR and CE in an ISO-17025 accredited laboratory;
• Knowledge of DNA profiling to include autosomal DNA testing (eg NGM SElect/NGM DEtect/GlobalFiler), Y-Chromosome testing, Mitochondrial DNA testing, Single Nucleotide Polymorphism’s (SNP’s) and future technologies including interpretation software packages;
• Comprehensive understanding of the role of forensic services providers within the criminal justice system;
• Understanding of Quality Control and Quality Management systems.
• Strong analytical skills;
• A proactive attitude and hands-on mentality;
• Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including ability to transfer knowledge to a wide audience.
• Good knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint and Word.
• Very good knowledge of Dutch and English is mandatory

Eurofins Forensics Belgium is a forensic services laboratory which offers DNA services and a wide range of other (analytical) services. Eurofins Forensics Belgium is a relatively small but growing and professionalizing organization within the network of Eurofins laboratories. The dynamic organization currently consists of approximately 30 ambitious employees and has a strong ambition aimed at providing maximum support to the Belgium criminal justice system with innovative, flexible and customer-oriented solutions. 

For our location in Bruges we are looking for an experienced DNA Technical Analyst / DNA R&D Analyst to support with technical management in a larger DNA-harmonization project between Eurofins forensic DNA-laboratories, setting up and maintaining an automated DNA processing line which conducts high throughput DNA profiling of crime stain and reference samples. This will include literature research, method development, validation and implementation. Eurofins Forensics Belgium works closely together with the colleagues in the Netherlands and the DNA Technical Analyst/DNA R&D Analyst will be part of the Eurofins Forensics Benelux DNA R&D team. The individual will be required to work flexibly and communicate effectively to deliver results within agreed timelines and to the highest quality standards.
