Role Overview

The Executive Director, Clinical Development (Pediatrics) plays a pivotal role in Gilead's virology portfolio, focusing on novel drugs for children. Based at our global headquarters in Foster City, California, with remote options for highly qualified candidates, this position oversees pediatric programs for HIV treatment and PrEP, viral hepatitis, viral respiratory diseases, and other antivirals. As Pediatric Head, you will lead Phase 1-3 clinical trials, develop pediatric clinical strategies, and ensure our medicines reach pediatric populations effectively. Key Responsibilities

In this leadership role, you will provide strategic oversight for all pediatric virology programs, collaborating with Vice Presidents in Virology and Development Evidence Leaders. Key duties include:

• Leading clinical strategy and execution across HIV, hepatitis, and respiratory antivirals for pediatrics.
• Managing Pediatric Development Team Leaders to meet project deliverables and timelines.
• Designing clinical trial protocols, overseeing medical monitoring, and handling toxicity and safety surveillance.
• Preparing regulatory documents such as Pediatric Investigation Plans (PIPs) and Pediatric Study Plans (PSPs).
• Representing programs in cross-functional committees, health authority interactions, and scientific conferences.
• Authoring publications and presenting at investigator meetings to advance scientific discourse.

Strategic Leadership

You will direct the development of Pediatric Clinical Development Plans and Target Product Profiles, liaising with Gilead Asset Teams and supporting Development Evidence Teams for seamless integration.

Qualifications & Requirements

To succeed, candidates need an MD or PhD with extensive experience in pediatric drug development. Ideal qualifications include:

• 10+ years in clinical development within biopharma, preferably virology.
• Proven expertise in designing and executing Phase 1-3 trials for antivirals.
• Strong regulatory knowledge, including PIPs/PSPs and health authority communications.
• Leadership experience managing teams and cross-functional collaborations.
• Deep understanding of pediatric indications in HIV, hepatitis, and respiratory diseases.
