The Food Safety Manager at PepsiCo's Winnipeg facility is a pivotal leadership role ensuring the highest standards of food safety across manufacturing operations. Reporting to senior quality leadership, you will oversee the Food Safety Management System (FSMS), prerequisite programs (PRPs), and compliance with regulatory requirements. This position demands a proactive leader who can manage teams, conduct audits, evaluate suppliers, and drive continuous improvement in a fast-paced production environment. As Food Safety Manager, your core duties include periodically reviewing all food safety and defense procedures to keep them current and effective. You will manage the Food Safety Team, directing reviews of FSMS-related changes and ensuring processes are established, implemented, and maintained. Promoting customer food safety requirements organization-wide is essential, alongside developing and monitoring PRPs like sanitation and pest control.
Key tasks also encompass evaluating supplier food safety systems, monitoring performance, and reviewing manufacturing practice revisions for hazard control. You will oversee the internal audit program, select auditors, analyze results, and supervise corrective actions. Reporting at Management Review meetings, collecting data to identify root causes of issues, and initiating corrections are critical. Additionally, leading self-inspection audits, ensuring plant-wide training, and managing programs for allergens and microbiology round out your impactful responsibilities.
Build and develop a high-performing Food Safety Team to solve day-to-day issues and achieve performance goals. Communicate cross-functionally to resolve challenges and foster a team-based decision-making approach.
To succeed, candidates need a Bachelor's Degree preferably in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, Science, or a related field. At least 3 years of supervisory experience is required, with demonstrated leadership ability and project management skills. SAP experience is an asset. You must be a highly motivated self-starter capable of thriving in unstructured environments, making quick trade-off decisions, and providing constructive feedback.
Strong coaching, facilitation, presentation, and team-building skills are essential, along with the willingness to work off shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed. Proven ability to work in results-oriented settings and lead audits will set you apart.
