Job Description Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Lead AME Automation and Controls Engineer to join our team. In this hands-on role, you will lead projects focused on the design and development of fixed and collaborative automation systems aimed at increasing productivity and eliminating non-value-added work for our MR RF Coil product lines. You will be an integral part of our new product introduction projects (NPI’s), leading the design transfer from Engineering to Manufacturing, including process design, qualification, control software development and validation of equipment and product. A key influencer to product design to incorporate automation standards for flexible and cost-effective solutions from the initial production release.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects to design and develop automation systems to enhance manufacturing productivity, new product introduction and capacity.
  • Own the controls architecture and software for PLC, Robotics, and Vision Systems.
  • Lead Design Transfer of NPIs by collaborating with manufacturing, manufacturing engineering, and product engineering teams.
  • Identify high Return on Investment opportunities, design and conduct feasibility studies, and develop business cases to deploy automation into production.
  • Apply creative solutions and ideas to drive productivity and quality using LEAN methodology, novel fixturing, collaborative robots, AI, traditional automation techniques, and integration of PLCs, HMIs, and motion systems.
  • Support Brilliant Factory initiatives by connecting physical processes with digital information.
  • Create standard automation Equipment/User Requirement Specifications to drive component standardization, data standards, and safety risk assessments.
  • Manage projects and lead project teams in a matrix organization.
  • Leverage and manage outside suppliers to deliver automation solutions.
  • Troubleshoot factory equipment controls, update/debug control software and support factory equipment as needed.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related technical degree.
  • 3+ years’ experience in factory automation, deploying various automation technologies from concept phase through final implementation into production.
  • Demonstrated skills in PLC and HMI programming, trouble shooting and debug
  • Experience in program or project management skills of internal/external integrators.
  • Experience developing technical documents, including the ability to write/perform FMEA’s, Equipment Risk Assessments, ERS’s (Equipment Requirements Specifications), and Validation Plans.
  • Experience with design tools such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and CREO.

Desirable:

  • 5+ years’ experience in the design, build, programming, and deployment of automation.
  • Experience with Fanuc Robot Programming and Python code development.
  • Experience with controls automation design and safety standards; NFPA 79, RIA15.06, and other relevant industry standards.
  • Substantial industrial experience in Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Six-sigma DMAIC & DFSS certified.
  • Solid working knowledge of Medical Device QMS procedures.
  • Experience working with global teams.
  • Demonstrated experience owning production processes and growing capability in yield, quality, and capacity.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting, analytical, and planning skills.
  • Strong communication skills (written and verbal) to all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to identify and implement Best Practices.
