The Role

As an Execution Future Program Ergonomist, you will be responsible for the identification and resolution of ergonomic issues which will drive the reduction of injuries and manufacturing inefficiencies on GM’s next generation of vehicles including Autonomous and Semi-autonomous vehicles, industry leading SUV’s, and Trucks, and the Corvette (the most affordable world-class sport car on the planet). The ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment will be critical to your success. You will collaborate with other engineering disciplines, such as product design and manufacturing, as well as outside suppliers and UAW representatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as the subject matter expert in the field of ergonomics, supporting launch and pre-production manufacturing ergonomic activities for New & Major vehicle programs in Warren and our vehicle manufacturing sites across North America. 
  • Ensure manufacturing ergonomics requirements are implemented and met on all new vehicle programs. 
  • Conduct Ergonomic risk analysis of new product designs and establish threshold limit values. 
  • Work collaboratively with product designers, manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering and assembly plant personnel, including UAW and non-UAW. 
  • Manage all ergonomic issues to closure and coordinate follow-up through the appropriate engineering team. 
  • Use 3D Virtual Digital Human Model (DHM) Simulations to determine acceptable manufacturing ergonomic parameters for new vehicle product assembly. 
  • Participate and lead as appropriate specific ergonomics initiatives/projects as needed to continuously improve processes, solution left and design out ergonomic issues before physical builds begin. 
  • Provide New Program Ergonomic issue status and updates to New Vehicle Program and Plant leadership. 
  • Provide timely written reports and updates on specific ergonomics projects, support analytics and lessons learned.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications) 

  • 2+ years of manufacturing experience 
  • 2+ years of automotive experience 
  • 1+ years of experience using ergonomic analysis tools 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, Human Kinetics, Industrial, Systems, or Mechanical Engineering. 
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, plan and execute manufacturing and/or ergonomic manufacturing projects. 
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects and/or programs is required. 
  • High level of analytical ability and problem-solving skills are required. 
  • Must be able to develop detailed understanding of the customer’s needs, issues, and priorities through routinely seeking customer feedback. 
  • An ability to focus on and work towards planned targets, overcoming obstacles, setbacks and uncertainty, using appropriate processes. 
  • Proactively take action to improve ability to deliver against existing goals. 
  • Provide the team with insights and background behind goals and required action. 
  • Ability to travel is required.

What Can Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)  

  • Knowledge of 3D CAD software and Digital Human Modeling (Siemens Jack/Process Simulate) is preferred 
  • Demonstrated ability to work with the UAW and other unions. 

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}.

The selected candidate will be required to travel <25% for this role.

This job is not eligible for relocation benefits. Any relocation costs would be the responsibility of the selected candidate.
