- Strong background in agile project leadership for infrastructure and scalability initiatives (experience)
- History of collaborating cross-functionally with Platform, Product, Development, and Support teams (experience)
- Demonstrated ability to enforce healthy database practices and shift from reactive to proactive operations (experience)
- Experience serving as escalation point for Tier-2 on-call and incident management (experience)
- Knowledge of data store selection and strategy for availability and reliability goals (experience)
- Track record of feeding operational lessons back into product development processes (experience)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with horizontal and vertical scaling of PostgreSQL in production environments (experience)
- Familiarity with AI integration in engineering workflows for productivity gains (experience)
- Background in asynchronous, distributed team collaboration across regions (experience)
- Expertise in capacity planning, compliance, and resilience engineering for databases (experience)
- Knowledge of supporting both SaaS and self-managed customer database needs (experience)
- Experience partnering with Support on complex customer database issues (experience)
- Proficiency in developing patterns and frameworks for database infrastructure growth (experience)
- Understanding of DevSecOps principles and security-focused database operations (experience)
- Prior work improving performance, capacity, and availability of database infrastructure (experience)

Responsibilities
- Lead the Database Reliability, Scale & Operations team to ensure availability and scalability
- Define and drive database strategy including data store selection for reliability goals
- Hire, coach, and develop exceptional engineers while setting clear objectives
- Enforce healthy database practices and promote proactive capacity planning
- Collaborate with Platform, Product, Development, and Support teams on initiatives
- Serve as escalation point for Tier-2 on-call database incidents
- Lead agile projects on PostgreSQL reliability, performance, and scaling
- Develop patterns and frameworks for database infrastructure growth
- Partner with Support on complex self-managed customer database issues
- Incorporate lessons from operations into GitLab product improvements
