  • Experience with stateful workloads and PostgreSQL schema design/migrations (experience)
  • Understanding of Linux systems, package management, and systemd (experience)
  • Production operations experience including observability and incident response (experience)
  • Ability to provide technical leadership through proposals and mentoring (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Ruby on Rails application architecture (experience)
  • Experience with cloud-native tooling like service mesh (experience)
  • Knowledge of observability stacks and infrastructure as code (experience)
  • Proficiency with Terraform or Ansible automation (experience)
  • Strategies for minimizing downtime in database upgrades (experience)
  • Experience with system-level debugging and on-call participation (experience)
  • Background in open source infrastructure projects (experience)
  • Ability to explain complex concepts to non-technical audiences (experience)
  • Transferable skills from adjacent deployment domains (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical vision for cloud-native self-managed deployments and zero-downtime upgrades
  • Establish operational maturity standards and deployment models for development teams
  • Design and maintain Kubernetes Operators, Helm charts, and upgrade tooling
  • Develop automation frameworks for database migrations and rolling deployments
  • Define database and application lifecycle strategies minimizing downtime
  • Collaborate with Product Management, SRE, and development teams on alignment
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, and documentation
  • Implement observability, testing, and resilience practices for deployments
  • Contribute to incident response and post-mortems for reliability improvements
  • Evolve GitLab Operator and Environment Toolkit for production deployments
