Canonical seeks a Golang Engineering Manager for its Commercial Systems unit, a critical hub of six engineering teams collaborating with business and engineering groups. This remote EMEA-based role focuses on high-impact internal products like Billing and Livepatch. The Billing team builds scalable Golang services to convert metrics into billable amounts, integrate with payment systems, and provide real-time spend visibility. The Livepatch team delivers kernel patches to minimize exploit windows for Linux vulnerabilities, emphasizing security, reliability, and Golang-based clients and backends. Ideal for managers passionate about engineering excellence, open source, and Canonical's growth.
As Golang Engineering Manager, you hold accountability for an internal product's design and development. Lead a team of software engineers specializing in Golang, fostering their skill growth while upholding high quality standards. Drive process improvements, innovative designs, and solutions that align with business needs. Collaborate across Canonical's distributed teams to deliver reliable, scalable services at the core of our commercial operations, supporting Ubuntu's enterprise adoption worldwide.
Guide direct reports in Golang development, mentor on best practices, and ensure delivery of mission-critical features for Billing or Livepatch.
Own end-to-end product lifecycle, from conception to operation, integrating with Canonical's ecosystem.
We seek candidates with an exceptional academic track record from high school and university, including an undergraduate degree in a technical field or a compelling alternative path. Demonstrate a history of exceeding expectations for outstanding results. Required experience includes software development in high-level languages like Golang, Python, or Java. Proficiency in professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills is essential. Be result-oriented, personally driven to meet commitments, and able to travel internationally twice yearly for up to two-week company events.
