As part of the Grammarly family since our acquisition, Coda is transforming into an AI-first, agentic workspace where intelligent agents help users plan, reason, synthesize, and execute without sacrificing usability or trust.

In this senior role, you'll define how AI agents show up inside Coda—designing proactive behaviors, intuitive controls, and trustworthy interactions. You'll make complex AI capabilities feel simple through thoughtful interaction design, strong product instincts, and consumer-grade polish. Partner with PMs, engineers, and researchers to invent new paradigms like agent prompts, inline suggestions, and multi-step workflows.

This is perfect for designers who thrive in ambiguity, think in systems, and have passion for AI-augmented productivity. Help transform Coda from powerful docs into living workspaces that eliminate busywork for 40M+ users worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design agentic document experiences: Create how AI agents operate inside Coda—proactive actions, guidance requests, and user-directed behaviors.
  • Make complex systems understandable: Translate AI reasoning, memory, automation, and context into intuitive mental models and workflows.
  • Set senior-level craft standards: Own end-to-end design from concepts to polished execution.
  • Invent interaction patterns: Explore beyond text editing—agent prompts, inline suggestions, background actions, multi-step workflows.
  • Prototype, test, iterate rapidly: Validate assumptions and learn what helps users work better.
  • Influence product strategy: Shape direction, tradeoffs, and sequencing with PMs/engineers.
  • Design human-in-control AI: Ensure agents assist without overriding user intent.
  • Conduct usability testing on AI experiences to ensure productivity gains.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ship production-ready AI features.
  • Maintain design system consistency across evolving AI capabilities.
  • Research user needs for AI-native workspaces.
  • Mentor junior designers on AI interaction principles.
  • Stay ahead of AI design trends to keep Coda innovative.

Qualifications

  • 8+ years product design experience, ideally with AI/complex systems.
  • Expertise in interaction design for proactive/agentic interfaces.
  • Strong systems thinking and scalable design systems experience.
  • Portfolio showing senior-level end-to-end ownership.
  • Proficiency in Figma, Framer, or advanced prototyping tools.
  • Deep AI knowledge (reasoning, memory, automation).
  • Proven ambiguity navigation in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong product instincts and strategy influence.
  • Cross-functional collaboration with PMs/engineers/research.
  • Pixel-perfect craft and consumer-grade execution.
  • Passion for productivity tools eliminating busywork.
  • Bonus: Experience with docs/canvas-style products like Coda/Notion.
