Role Description

As an Actuarial Assistant 2 in Guardian's Student Program, you'll develop a deep understanding of our insurance products and how your work drives business success. You'll perform financial and non-financial analyses, deliver actionable recommendations, and rotate through departments to build versatile expertise. This role is perfect for self-starters nearing their Actuarial Associate designation, eager to transform data into strategic insights in a collaborative environment.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Identify procedural and technical improvements in actuarial projects to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Complete assignments on time and to specifications, balancing independence with seeking managerial guidance when needed.
  • Actively pursue additional challenges to accelerate professional growth and skill development.
  • Leverage internal and external data sources to analyze industry trends, client behaviors, competitors, and regulatory changes.
  • Assist in financial modeling, risk assessment, and profitability analysis for insurance products.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development and business strategy.
  • Contribute to reports and presentations that inform executive decisions on growth initiatives.

Required Skills

Guardian Life seeks candidates with strong analytical prowess and a passion for actuarial work. Key skills include:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for complex data analysis and modeling.
  • Experience with AXIS actuarial modeling software (preferred).
  • Knowledge of VBA programming and other coding languages (advantageous).
  • Understanding of asset-liability interactions in actuarial models.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills for presenting insights.
  • Data-driven decision-making and trend analysis capabilities.
  • Collaboration and teamwork in fast-paced, hybrid environments.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related field.
  • At least 2 years of relevant actuarial or analytical experience.
  • Prior work experience in the actuarial field, preferably in insurance.
  • Close to achieving Actuarial Associate (ASA) designation from the Society of Actuaries.
  • Self-starter fueled by collaboration, with a track record of turning concepts into executable insights.

Compensation Overview

Salary Range: $81,580.00 - $122,365.00 (USD, yearly). This good faith estimate reflects base pay for the primary New York location. Actual salary will be determined based on education, experience, knowledge, and abilities. Eligible for annual, sales, or other incentive compensation, plus comprehensive benefits.

Role Description

As an Actuarial Assistant 2 in Guardian's Student Program, you'll develop a deep understanding of our insurance products and how your work drives business success.
