Role Description

As Head of Claims Technology Engineering, you'll serve as the strategic and technical north star for our claims technology domain. Guiding multiple products and squads, you'll partner closely with business product managers to shape a bold technical vision, modernize core platforms, and elevate engineering excellence at scale. Your leadership will drive secure, efficient delivery aligned to business value, fueling Guardian's digital transformation.

Champion best-in-class practices, accelerate automation, and inspire teams to embrace continuous improvement. Translate ambitious business goals into outcome-driven roadmaps, orchestrate cross-domain initiatives, and partner with Value Stream, Platform, Data, AI, and Enterprise teams for unified success.

Detailed Responsibilities

• Set and champion domain-level technical direction and architectural vision for cohesive modernization across products.
• Translate business strategies into multi-year plans accelerating delivery, reliability, and long-term success.
• Oversee technical design governance ensuring uncompromising performance, resilience, and security.
• Build scalable engineering practices, reusable frameworks, and high-quality patterns for the product ecosystem.
• Serve as escalation point for complex technical decisions, incidents, and risks with decisive leadership.
• Develop, mentor, and elevate engineers, tech leads, and future leaders to strengthen organizational talent.
• Partner across value streams, enterprise platforms, Data & AI, and executives for alignment and outcomes.
• Collaborate with product managers on quarterly plans, outcomes, dependencies, and OKR commitments.
• Influence funding, modernization investments, and enterprise architecture evolution.
• Drive improvements in automation, SDLC, cloud adoption, tooling, and delivery excellence.
• Enable AI-for-engineers adoption and AI applications for value-stream outcomes.
• Establish world-class standards in CI/CD, testing, security, supportability, and metrics.

Required Skills

We're seeking a leader with proven expertise in modernizing enterprise systems and driving technical strategy.

Education & Experience

• 8–12 years of engineering experience leading technical strategy and domain-level architecture.
• Proven track record modernizing legacy platforms and delivering platform engineering at scale.
• Deep hands-on expertise in distributed systems, cloud architectures, APIs, data platforms, AI/ML, event-driven patterns.
• Ability to shape long-term strategy, influence architecture, and guide investments.
• History building high-performing, inclusive engineering cultures.
• Strong executive communication to influence leaders and align stakeholders.

Compensation Overview

Salary Range: $152,290.00 - $250,195.00 (USD, yearly). This good faith estimate reflects base pay for the primary New York location. Actual salary determined by education, experience, knowledge, and abilities. Eligible for annual, sales, or other incentives.
