Role Description

The Head of Engineering Experience and Platforms at Guardian Life is a strategic leadership role responsible for championing the productivity, satisfaction, and continuous growth of our engineering community. Reporting directly to the Head of Engineering and Delivery Enablement, you'll shape the future of our development ecosystem by embedding AI-native and agentic capabilities throughout the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC). This position owns the creation and evolution of a seamless, scalable, and frictionless engineering environment that anticipates needs, orchestrates workflows, and reduces cognitive load through intelligent automation and smart developer assistance.

Partnering with senior technology leaders, including the Head of Architecture and Head of Cloud, you'll drive SDLC modernization, enabling engineers to deliver high-quality software at scale. From AI code assistants like GitHub Copilot to advanced CI/CD pipelines and internal developer platforms, you'll empower teams to innovate faster in a cloud-native world. Detailed Responsibilities

• Engineer Productivity: Own and optimize the end-to-end developer workflow, including onboarding, tooling decisions, documentation, and internal platforms to boost efficiency.
• Advocacy & Support: Serve as the voice of the engineer, identifying pain points and driving cross-team improvements for enhanced satisfaction.
• Tooling & Platforms: Evaluate, implement, and manage best-in-class tools like GitHub Copilot, AI agents for developer experience, GitHub Actions, CI/CD pipelines, and internal developer platforms.
• Collaboration: Partner with the Head of Architecture on technical standards and the Head of Cloud for cloud-native best practices.
• Engineering Metrics: Lead the Engineering Metrics Program, defining, tracking, and reporting on developer experience and productivity metrics.
• Developer Evangelization: Spearhead the Developer Evangelization Group to accelerate adoption of new technologies and processes.
• Metrics & Feedback: Establish regular feedback loops to measure and continuously improve developer satisfaction and performance.
• Culture & Community: Foster a culture of learning, innovation, and knowledge sharing through events, documentation, and mentorship programs.

Required Skills

To excel as Head of Engineering Experience and Platforms, you'll bring expertise in modern DevOps, AI-driven tools, and platform engineering. Key skills include deep knowledge of GitHub ecosystem, cloud platforms, and metrics-driven optimization.

Education & Experience

• 10+ years of proven experience in software engineering, developer productivity, or platform engineering.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (advanced degrees preferred).
• Strong leadership track record in scaling engineering teams and ecosystems.
• Demonstrated success in implementing AI-augmented developer tools and SDLC transformations.

Compensation Overview

The base salary range for this position is $152,290.00 - $250,195.00 annually, depending on experience, education, knowledge, and abilities. In addition to competitive base pay, this role may include annual incentives, performance bonuses, or other compensation.
