Role Description

We are seeking an experienced Java Team Lead with deep expertise in Spring Boot Microservices, strong Core Java fundamentals, and a proven track record in building scalable, high-performance applications. The ideal Senior Lead Engineer - IT will lead a team of developers, drive technical excellence, and ensure timely delivery of high-quality solutions for Guardian Life's mission-critical systems. Experience with relational databases like MySQL and PostgreSQL, CI/CD pipelines, and testing frameworks is essential. Knowledge of AWS cloud services and modern DevOps practices will be a strong advantage. This full-time role in Chennai offers the chance to work on innovative projects in a dynamic insurance tech environment.

Detailed Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of Java developers, providing technical guidance, conducting performance reviews, and fostering a collaborative, high-performance environment.
• Design, develop, and maintain Java-based applications using Spring Boot and Microservices architecture to support scalable insurance platforms.
• Implement robust RESTful APIs and ensure seamless integration between microservices for optimal system performance.
• Develop and optimize database schemas and queries for MySQL and PostgreSQL, focusing on data integrity and query efficiency.
• Apply advanced design patterns and object-oriented principles to create robust, reusable, and maintainable codebases.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, Git, and Maven/Gradle to accelerate development cycles.
• Oversee comprehensive unit testing and integration testing using JUnit, Mockito, and other frameworks to ensure code reliability.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including QA, DevOps, Product Management, and business stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions.
• Conduct thorough code reviews, performance tuning, and troubleshooting to resolve complex technical issues.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, adopt emerging technologies, and ensure adherence to best practices, coding standards, and architectural guidelines.
• Champion agile methodologies, participate in sprint planning, and align technical delivery with business objectives in the insurance domain.

Required Skills

• Strong proficiency in Core Java (Collections, Multithreading, Exception Handling, Streams, Lambda expressions).
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and Microservices architecture.
• Solid understanding of RESTful services, API design, and integration patterns.
• Expertise in MySQL and PostgreSQL databases, including schema design and optimization.
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Git, Maven/Gradle).
• Proficiency in unit testing frameworks like JUnit and Mockito.
• Good understanding of design patterns (Singleton, Factory, Observer) and software development principles (SOLID, DRY).
• Familiarity with AWS services (EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda) and DevOps practices.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and collaboration skills for team and stakeholder management.

Education & Experience

8–10 years of professional experience in Java development, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Proven experience leading teams in agile environments, preferably in financial services or insurance tech. Leadership competencies include team management, stakeholder communication, decision-making, conflict resolution, project ownership, and strategic thinking.
