Role Description

As a Specialty Market Underwriter Consultant in Bethlehem, United States, you'll independently lead underwriting oversight for Key Markets relationships. Partner holistically with stakeholders to achieve sales, revenue, and earnings goals in the Large Market & Key Markets space. Leverage your experience-based rating and risk assessment background to recommend competitive products, funding arrangements, and services. Influence Guardian's underwriting strategies for industry leadership in PEO and alternative distribution channels. This hybrid role requires three days per week in our Bethlehem, PA office (preferred), Boston, MA, or Holmdel, NJ locations, with two days remote. Qualified remote candidates considered. Minimal travel for finalist and broker meetings.

Detailed Responsibilities

  • Improve Sales, Revenue, and Earnings results on Life, Disability, Dental, Vision, Accident, and Supplemental Health products in Large Market & Key Markets.
  • Participate in underwriting strategies supporting key growth goals and industry leadership in PEO & alternative distribution.
  • Lead underwriting oversight and management for assigned Key Markets relationships, collaborating on partner strategies and stewardship.
  • Perform accurate financial analysis of new/renewal business to determine risk classification per company guidelines.
  • Recommend competitively priced products, funding, and services; communicate rate development and plan design effectively.
  • Apply knowledge of Federal/State legislation related to Group Insurance Products.
  • Complete administrative processing using underwriting systems/databases for quotes, sales, renewals.
  • Mentor/coach team members, conduct training for sales/underwriting staff, support growth initiatives.
  • Support Specialty/Key Partnerships leadership in key result-driving activities.
  • Negotiate with sales reps, agents/brokers on rates, discrepancies, and risk concerns.
  • Build external relationships via broker visits, connections, and training/education.
  • Lead complex work or key projects, handling delegated tasks for overall deliverables.

  • Thorough knowledge of Group Insurance products/processes.
  • Knowledge of local market competition and strategy.
  • Excellent analytical/mathematical skills for complex cases.
  • Proven decision-making, problem-solving, negotiation, and conflict resolution.
  • Independent worker with strong verbal/written communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Compensation Overview
