Handshake
Handshake is seeking experienced Calibration Technicians to support AI research through flexible, hourly contract work. This is not a traditional full-time technician role. You’ll use your real-world experience calibrating, testing, and maintaining equipment to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI better understand calibration tasks, quality requirements, and technical terminology.
This is an ongoing, project-based opportunity that can be done alongside your primary employment.
As a Calibration Technician contractor, your day will primarily involve evaluating AI-generated content related to calibration and metrology. This includes:
You'll have the flexibility to work on your own schedule and contribute to projects as they become available.
While this is a fully remote position, Handshake has a presence in San Jose, California, a hub for technology and innovation. As an independent contractor, you will be paid an hourly rate commensurate with your experience and the project requirements. Handshake offers a competitive rate for this type of work. Because this is a contract role, traditional employee benefits such as health insurance and paid time off are not included. However, the flexibility and project-based nature of the work allow you to integrate it seamlessly into your existing professional life.

We require 4+ years of professional experience as a Calibration Technician or in closely related metrology or instrumentation roles.
Is prior AI experience necessary?
No prior AI or technical experience is required. We are looking for your expertise in calibration and metrology.
What are the main responsibilities of this role?
You will be evaluating AI-generated responses, designing job-related questions, and providing feedback to improve AI understanding of calibration tasks and terminology.
How flexible is the work schedule?
The schedule is very flexible and asynchronous, with no minimum hour requirement. Many contributors work approximately 5–20 hours per week when assigned to an active project.
Is this a full-time position?
No, this is an independent contractor role, not a full-time employee role.
What type of work authorization is required?
F-1 students who are eligible for CPT or OPT may be eligible. STEM OPT is not supported. See our Help Center article for more information.
Where can I work from?
The position is fully remote. You can work from anywhere with a reliable internet connection and access to a desktop or laptop computer.
How long do projects typically last?
The Handshake AI program runs year-round, with projects opening periodically across different areas of expertise. Placement depends on current project needs.
