Handshake is seeking experienced Law Clerks and legal professionals to support AI research through flexible, hourly contract work. This is not a traditional full-time law firm or court role. You’ll use your real-world legal research and drafting experience to evaluate AI-generated content and provide feedback that helps AI better understand legal tasks, reasoning, and professional language.

As a Law Clerk at Handshake AI, your day might involve the following tasks:
This Law Clerk position is fully remote, allowing you to work from anywhere in the USA with a reliable internet connection. Handshake AI embraces remote work to attract top talent from across the country and to provide flexibility and work-life balance for its contractors.
While this is a contract role, it offers opportunities for professional development and exposure to cutting-edge AI technology. Successful Law Clerks may have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and to expand their knowledge of AI in the legal field. This role can also serve as a stepping stone to other opportunities within Handshake or in the broader legal tech industry.
This is a contract position, and compensation is provided on an hourly basis. The hourly rate is competitive and commensurate with experience. As a contractor, you will have the flexibility to set your own hours and to work on projects that align with your interests and expertise. There are no traditional benefits, but the flexibility and project-based nature of the work offer unique advantages.

We require 4+ years of professional experience as a Law Clerk or in closely related legal research or support roles. You should also have hands-on experience conducting legal research, drafting or reviewing legal documents, and supporting attorneys, judges, or legal teams.
This is a part-time, project-based contract opportunity. There is no minimum hour requirement, and many contributors work approximately 5–20 hours per week when assigned to an active project.
You will be using your professional experience as a Law Clerk or legal research professional to design job-related questions and review AI-generated responses for accuracy and relevance to real-world legal work.
No, prior AI or technical experience is not required.
This is an independent contractor role, fully remote, with a flexible and asynchronous schedule.
The Handshake AI program runs year-round, with projects opening periodically across different areas of expertise. Placement depends on current project needs, with opportunities to be considered for future projects as they become available.
F-1 students who are eligible for CPT or OPT may be eligible for projects on Handshake AI. Work with your Designated School Official to determine your eligibility. If your school requires a CPT course, Handshake AI may not meet your school’s requirements. STEM OPT is not supported.
You will enhance your legal research, writing, and analytical skills. You will also gain experience in AI legal applications and contribute to the future of legal technology.
While this is a contract role, it offers opportunities for professional development and exposure to cutting-edge AI technology. Successful Law Clerks may have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects and to expand their knowledge of AI in the legal field.
