As the Health, Safety & Environment Manager, you will act as the strategic architect for Youfoodz’s safety infrastructure, designing and embedding a world class Safety Management System that operates seamlessly across the employee and production lifecycle. Beyond compliance, this role is a critical leadership partner, responsible for coaching operational leaders to own safety outcomes.

The Health, Safety & Environment Lead role is based in our Youfoodz site at Karawatha, Brisbane and reports to the Chief Operating Officer.

You Will…

  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Senior Leadership Team focusing on coaching leaders in effective safety leadership
  • Embed shared accountability, transitioning safety ownership from the HS&E department to the operational line.
  • Lead the cultural shift from "reactive compliance" to "interdependent safety" by designing initiatives that foster psychological safety.
  • Shift reporting focus from lagging indicators to leading indicators (hazard observations, safety interactions) to predict and prevent incidents.
  • Oversee incident management using systemic investigation methodologies (e.g., ICAM or 5 Whys) to identify system failures.
  • Manage WorkCover claims and Return to Work (RTW) programs with a focus on early intervention and genuine care.
  • Develop a competency-based training matrix that verifies skills for high-risk activities.
  • Develop and own the Environmental Management Plan, driving specific initiatives around waste reduction and energy efficiency.

You Have…

  • Minimum 6+ years of experience in senior safety leadership roles.
  • Proven experience within the Manufacturing or FMCG sectors is essential (Food Manufacturing experience is highly advantageous).
  • Tertiary qualifications in Work Health & Safety (WH&S), Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Extensive and up-to-date knowledge of HS&E legislation, Chain of Responsibility (CoR), and industry best practices.
  • A demonstrated track record of designing and deploying company-wide strategic initiatives that successfully improved safety performance and environmental compliance.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex safety data into clear, actionable business insights.
