The Conversions team at HelloFresh is responsible for building and evolving the services that power the signup funnel across all HelloFresh brands. Our mission is to enable a seamless, flexible signup experience while collecting high-quality data that fuels personalized customer experiences and more targeted marketing initiatives.

A key focus of this role is designing and building backend services for lead collection that allow customers to progress fluidly through their journey, while reliably capturing and distributing data across the HelloFresh ecosystem via event-driven architectures. Our systems operate at global scale and directly impact customer acquisition, conversion, and long-term value.

The Role

As a Senior Backend Engineer in Conversions, you will own services at the very start of the customer lifecycle, where small changes can have an outsized impact. You’ll help design systems that make experimentation safe, scalable, and data-driven, while ensuring performance, reliability, and data integrity at global scale.

Lettuce share what this role will be responsible for

• Design, build, and operate backend services that enable rapid experimentation across the signup and conversion funnel
• Build a scalable lead collection service that supports partial journeys, retries, and progressive data capture without disrupting the user experience
• Ensure experiment variants, events, and customer attributes are captured accurately and consistently for analytics, personalization, and marketing
• Publish and consume Kafka events to integrate with experimentation, analytics, and downstream domain services
• Partner closely with product, engineering, product analytics, marketing, and leadership teams to define experiment requirements, success metrics, and technical trade-offs
• Enable safe experimentation through feature flags, backward-compatible APIs, and resilient system design
• Ensure services are observable and debuggable using tools such as Grafana and Prometheus, with a strong focus on data correctness and latency
  
  
  

Sound a-peeling? Here's what we're looking for

• Strong backend engineering experience in a microservices environment, ideally using Go (Java/Kotlin experience is also welcome)
• Solid understanding of event-driven architectures and practical experience with Kafka
• Experience designing APIs and data models that support experimentation, analytics, and incremental data collection
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern CI/CD practices
• Hands-on experience with observability and monitoring using Grafana, Prometheus, or similar tools
• Experience working with relational and/or document databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB)
• Demonstrable experience strategically utilizing modern AI tools and cutting-edge methodologies (eg, vibe coding, pair programming) and actively acting as an ambassador to bring this AI mentality into the team.
• [Nice to have] Experience building or supporting experimentation platforms, A/B testing, or funnel optimization systems
• A strong product mindset with the ability to balance speed of experimentation with reliability and data quality
