Empower the Future with Hitachi Energy: Join us as a Scientist in Physics of Failure & Reliability. We are looking for a passionate and proficient scientist to join us in reliability research for power grid assets and systems. As part of our dynamic, motivated, and creative team, you’ll bridge theory and application, developing, testing, and validating novel methods and technologies to facilitate the energy transition.

How you’ll make an impact

  • You drive impact: Lead and contribute to cross-functional projects by focusing on the underlying physics of failure, ensuring that reliability enhancements for power grid assets are grounded in a deep understanding of how application stresses translate into real-world failure mechanisms. Prioritize integrating physical failure models into data analysis, so that every solution is both scientifically robust and directly relevant to operational challenges
  • You innovate: Proactively seek out emerging knowledge in failure physics and ensure that data collected and analysed reflects the true physical processes affecting system reliability, keeping the team at the cutting edge of reliability science and its practical applications
  • You take initiative: Collaborate with a global team of researchers and engineers in Hitachi Energy Research and Hitachi Energy business units to identify and solve real-world problems and realize opportunities for further improvements
  • You connect: Build relationships within the company and actively share your knowledge and expertise
  • You communicate: Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports

Your background

  • PhD in physics, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field
  • Expertise in physics of failure, failure investigation, root-cause analysis, and reliability modeling, all with strong attention to practical application, data analysis and accurate interpretation
  • Industry or post-doc experience (in energy technology or other industries like automotive, rail, aerospace, telecommunication) in developing and implementing product reliability improvements is a plus
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken
