Job Description:

Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Senior Commissioning Engineer – Signalling Function Tester who thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Brisbane, Australia.

Key accountabilities:

  • Participating in the testing and commissioning of primarily wayside signalling with elements of on-board, communications and control systems in accordance with the Commissioning procedures.

  • Performing factory and site testing as required.

  • Participating in fault identification during set to work activities and during commissioning.

  • Supporting the engineering team by carrying out correlation of existing installations to verify the design inputs match the installation

  • Set to work, testing and commissioning of signalling equipment.

  • Verifying the design against wiring diagrams, equipment layouts and signalling plans.

  • Conduct testing to approved test procedures

  • Loading and verification of software configuration

  • Supporting the Commissioning Manager or his delegate in ensuring the timely production of Test Plans, Procedures and Reports at the project level.

  • Supporting the Commissioning Manager or his delegate in the continuous improvement of project documentation.

  • Supporting V&V activities

  • Supporting the Construction team where required including:

    • Wiring and termination of signalling equipment either on-board trains, in trackside locations, in communications locations or in control centres.

    • Installation of signalling equipment and cables for on-board, trackside, communications and control centre applications.

  • Attending project progress meetings as and when required.

  • Ensure that the test and commissioning activities are executed in alignment with the Work, Health and Safety requirements of the company and the project

  • Supporting the Functional Manager in the evaluation of the performance of assigned resources, identifying the need for additional resource with project justification and identifying training needs

Key knowledge and experience:

  • Electrical Trade qualification, CERT IV in railway signalling or IRSE Functional Testers License is essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar field is desirable

  • 5-10 years' experience in a similar role in the Rail Signal industry with demonstrated capability and skills in:

    • Railway equipment and environment

    • Signalling circuitry

    • Use of Test equipment (e.g. Digital and Analog multimeters, insulation meters, etc.)

    • Use of Computer based test software

    • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite

    • Knowledge of Incident/accident investigation

    • Knowledge of ERP and Configuration Management tools

    • Knowledge of Database tools

    • Knowledge of tendering process

    • Knowledge of budgeting and cost estimation

    • A willingness to travel as required by the project
