Advanced Mechanical Design Engineer

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop advanced mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD software, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as ASME Y14.5 and ISO tolerances.
  • Perform finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to validate designs for stress, thermal, and vibration performance.
  • Lead design reviews and prototyping efforts, iterating based on test data and stakeholder feedback to optimize manufacturability and cost.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, quality, and systems engineering to integrate designs into production workflows.
  • Conduct failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and risk assessments to enhance product reliability in demanding environments.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma methodologies.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical design engineering within aerospace, automotive, or industrial sectors (experience)
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Creo, SolidWorks, or CATIA (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with FEA tools like ANSYS or Abaqus for structural analysis (experience)
  • Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and mechanical drafting standards (experience)
  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM) and assembly (DFA) principles (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (experience)
  • Professional certification such as Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP) or Six Sigma Green Belt (experience)
  • Experience in aerospace component design or regulatory compliance (e.g., FAA, AS9100) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed 3D models and 2D drawings of mechanical systems using advanced CAD tools
  • Execute structural, thermal, and dynamic simulations to predict and mitigate design risks
  • Prototype and test mechanical designs, analyzing results to refine iterations for optimal performance
  • Lead multidisciplinary design reviews and provide technical guidance to project teams
  • Integrate sustainability considerations into designs, focusing on lightweight materials and energy efficiency
  • Document design processes, generate reports, and support patent filings for innovative solutions
  • Collaborate with supply chain partners to ensure seamless transition from design to production
