Advanced Project Engineer

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Hybrid)

Overview

As an Advanced Project Engineer at Honeywell, you will provide expert-level technical leadership in the design and development of complex engineering projects within our cutting-edge aerospace and industrial automation divisions. Acting as the subject matter expert, you will drive technical excellence, innovate solutions for high-stakes systems, and ensure seamless integration of advanced technologies. Reporting directly to our Engineering Manager, you will work out of our state-of-the-art facility in Phoenix, AZ, on a hybrid schedule that balances collaboration with flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the architectural design and development of complex engineering projects, from concept to deployment, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as AS9100 and DO-178C.
  • Conduct detailed technical analyses, simulations, and risk assessments to optimize system performance and reliability in aerospace or automation environments.
  • Mentor junior engineers and cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of innovation and knowledge sharing.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, including customers, suppliers, and internal teams, to define requirements and deliver solutions that exceed expectations.
  • Oversee project execution, including budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation, using tools like Microsoft Project or Jira.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, implementing lean methodologies and root cause analysis to enhance product quality and efficiency.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies in areas like IoT, AI/ML, and embedded systems to integrate into Honeywell's product roadmap.

  • 5+ years of experience in engineering project leadership, preferably in aerospace, defense, or industrial automation (experience)
  • Proven track record managing complex projects from design through validation and production (experience)
  • Expertise in engineering tools such as MATLAB/Simulink, CAD (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA), or ANSYS (experience)
  • Strong understanding of systems engineering principles and regulatory standards (e.g., FAA, MIL-STD) (experience)
  • Experience with agile project management methodologies (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or related field (experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or certifications like PMP, Six Sigma Black Belt (experience)
  • 10+ years in advanced engineering projects with hands-on experience in avionics or control systems (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop advanced engineering solutions for multi-domain systems integration
  • Lead technical reviews, design verification, and validation testing to ensure project milestones are met
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to resolve complex technical challenges and innovate processes
  • Manage project risks, budgets, and timelines while delivering high-quality, on-schedule results
  • Mentor and develop engineering talent, conducting performance reviews and skill-building workshops
  • Interface with customers and suppliers to gather requirements and negotiate technical specifications
  • Implement data-driven improvements using statistical analysis and digital twin technologies
