Job Overview

As an Advanced Reliability Engineer at Honeywell, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our cutting-edge hardware products. Supporting the full lifecycle from concept to production, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design robust systems, validate designs through rigorous testing, and drive continuous improvement in product quality. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager, this hybrid role (Minneapolis, MN) offers the flexibility of remote work after an initial 90-day onsite onboarding period, allowing you to balance innovation with work-life integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support hardware design from concept through production, including schematic capture, PCB layout review, and component selection to optimize reliability.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive reliability test plans, including accelerated life testing, environmental stress screening, and failure mode analysis (FMEA).
  • Perform hardware testing and validation using tools like oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and thermal chambers to identify and mitigate potential failure points.
  • Analyze field data and production test results to recommend design improvements and enhance product MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures).
  • Collaborate with design engineers, manufacturing teams, and suppliers to implement reliability best practices and resolve issues proactively.
  • Document reliability predictions, test reports, and lessons learned, contributing to Honeywell's knowledge base for future projects.
  • Mentor junior engineers on reliability engineering principles and tools.

Summary

You will report directly to our Engineering Manager, and you’ll work out of our Minneapolis, MN location. This role is eligible for hybrid work mode, except for the first 90 days.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or a related technical field (experience)
  • 5+ years of experience in hardware reliability engineering, preferably in aerospace, defense, or industrial sectors (experience)
  • Proven experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium Designer or Cadence Allegro (experience)
  • Hands-on expertise in hardware testing methodologies, including HALT/HASS and environmental testing (experience)
  • Strong understanding of reliability standards (e.g., MIL-STD-810, IPC standards) and statistical analysis tools like Minitab or JMP (experience)
  • Experience with failure analysis techniques such as root cause analysis (RCA) and Weibull analysis (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Reliability Engineering or related field (experience)
  • ASQ Certified Reliability Engineer (CRE) or equivalent certification (experience)
  • Experience with DFMEA/PFMEA in high-reliability hardware applications (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate on hardware design from concept to production, providing reliability input during schematic capture and PCB layout phases
  • Develop and execute reliability test plans, including accelerated life testing and environmental stress screening to validate product robustness
  • Conduct hardware testing using advanced lab equipment to ensure compliance with reliability specifications and identify failure modes
  • Perform statistical analysis of test data and field returns to predict and improve MTBF and product lifespan
  • Lead cross-functional root cause investigations and implement corrective actions to enhance design reliability
  • Work with suppliers to qualify components for high-reliability applications and monitor ongoing performance
  • Document and present reliability findings to stakeholders, driving design iterations and process improvements
