We are seeking a skilled Chemical Engineer II to join our dynamic team in Allentown, PA on a hybrid work schedule. In this role, you will assist in designing, developing, and implementing chemical processes using advanced simulation tools like ASPEN and UNISIM. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive product development, optimize processes, and ensure project success. Reporting directly to our Engineering Manager, you will contribute to innovative solutions in the chemical and manufacturing sectors, leveraging Honeywell's cutting-edge technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize chemical process simulations using ASPEN Plus and UNISIM Design to model steady-state and dynamic processes.
  • Design, develop, and implement chemical processes for industrial applications, including reaction engineering, separations, and heat transfer.
  • Collaborate with R&D, operations, and project teams to troubleshoot process issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform process safety analyses, including HAZOP studies and risk assessments, to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Generate technical reports, process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping & instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs) for project documentation.
  • Support scale-up from pilot to commercial production, validating models against real-world data.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge-sharing within the team.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited university (experience)
  • 5+ years of professional experience in chemical process engineering, with hands-on use of ASPEN Plus or UNISIM (experience)
  • Proven track record of developing process simulations for industrial applications (experience)
  • Experience with process design, optimization, and troubleshooting in a manufacturing or R&D environment (experience)
  • Familiarity with process safety management and regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA, EPA) (experience)
  • Ability to work in a hybrid environment and travel occasionally to client or production sites (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or related discipline (experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification (experience)
  • Experience with dynamic simulations, HYSYS, or other process modeling tools (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Build and validate process models using ASPEN Plus and UNISIM for distillation, reactors, and heat exchangers
  • Conduct process optimization studies to improve yield, energy efficiency, and operability
  • Lead HAZOP and LOPA sessions to identify and mitigate process hazards
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate process designs into overall project deliverables
  • Analyze experimental data and pilot plant results to refine simulation models
  • Prepare detailed engineering documentation including PFDs, P&IDs, and heat and material balances
  • Support commissioning and startup activities for new or revamped chemical processes
