CMM Inspector - Level 1

Location: Yeovil, Somerset, UK | Workplace: Hybrid

Overview

As a CMM Inspector - Level 1 at Honeywell Aerospace, you will play a critical role in upholding our commitment to product quality and compliance. Reporting directly to the Quality Assurance Manager, you’ll work out of our state-of-the-art facility in Yeovil, Somerset, on a hybrid schedule that blends on-site precision work with flexible remote options. In this position, you will perform meticulous inspections, tests, and measurements using Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) to ensure aerospace components meet Honeywell's rigorous standards and regulatory requirements. Your attention to detail and technical expertise will directly contribute to the safety and reliability of products that power the world's leading aircraft engines and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate CMM equipment to perform precise dimensional inspections on complex aerospace parts, verifying conformance to engineering drawings, GD&T specifications, and quality standards.
  • Conduct first article inspections (FAI) and in-process verifications, documenting results using industry-standard tools like PC-DMIS or Calypso software.
  • Identify and report non-conformances, collaborating with engineering and production teams to implement corrective actions and prevent recurrence.
  • Maintain inspection equipment calibration schedules and perform routine maintenance to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Analyze measurement data to support continuous improvement initiatives, reducing scrap rates and enhancing manufacturing efficiency.
  • Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain accurate records in Honeywell's quality management system (QMS).
  • Support audits and certifications, including AS9100 and Nadcap compliance.

  • Familiarity with quality management systems such as AS9100 and ISO 9001 (experience)
  • Ability to read and interpret complex engineering blueprints and 3D models (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Metrology (experience)
  • CMM programming certification (e.g., PC-DMIS Level 1 or Zeiss Calypso) (experience)
  • Experience with aerospace components and FAI reporting per AS9102 (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Program and operate CMM machines to inspect precision parts, achieving sub-micron accuracy levels
  • Perform detailed measurements and tests on incoming materials, in-process components, and finished assemblies
  • Document inspection results, non-conformances, and corrective actions in digital QMS platforms
  • Calibrate and maintain metrology tools, ensuring traceability to national standards
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve quality issues and optimize inspection processes
  • Support root cause analysis using tools like 8D and fishbone diagrams
  • Participate in internal audits and prepare for customer or regulatory reviews
