Electrical Engineer II - Avionics Repair & Overhaul

Location: Clearwater, FL | Workplace: On-site | Honeywell Aerospace

In this pivotal role, you will drive electrical engineering solutions to sustain and expand our Avionics Repair & Overhaul (R&O) business. Your work will focus on turnaround time (TAT) improvements, cost reductions, and capability expansions, ensuring Honeywell remains a leader in aviation maintenance and reliability. Reporting directly to the Senior Engineering Manager, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to innovate repair processes for cutting-edge avionics systems used in commercial and military aircraft. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement electrical engineering solutions for avionics R&O, optimizing repair processes to reduce TAT by 20-30%.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on failed avionics components, developing cost-effective fixes that lower overhaul expenses.
  • Expand R&O capabilities by qualifying new test equipment and repair methodologies for legacy and modern avionics systems.
  • Lead design reviews and validation testing to ensure compliance with FAA, EASA, and military standards (e.g., DO-160, MIL-STD-810).
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, quality, and supply chain teams to integrate engineering changes into production workflows.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, including schematics, test procedures, and failure mode analyses.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Six Sigma principles.

  • 5+ years of experience in electrical engineering within aerospace, avionics, or electronics repair and overhaul environments (experience)
  • Proven track record in designing and troubleshooting electrical systems for avionics or similar high-reliability applications (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with schematic capture, PCB design, and test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and spectrum analyzers (experience)
  • Familiarity with aviation regulatory standards including FAA Part 145, DO-160, and AS9100 quality systems (experience)
  • U.S. Person status (ITAR compliance) required due to export-controlled technology (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field (experience)
  • Certifications such as Certified Six Sigma Green Belt or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (experience)
  • Experience with avionics systems from Honeywell, Collins Aerospace, or similar OEMs (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate electrical designs for avionics repair processes to achieve TAT reductions and cost savings
  • Perform failure analysis and reverse engineering on avionics line-replaceable units (LRUs) and circuit card assemblies
  • Lead cross-functional teams in qualifying new R&O capabilities, including fixture design and automated test development
  • Optimize test procedures and equipment to expand repair throughput for high-volume avionics products
  • Ensure all engineering solutions meet stringent aerospace certifications and reliability requirements
  • Collaborate with suppliers to resolve component obsolescence issues in legacy avionics systems
  • Generate detailed reports and present findings to senior management and customers
