Embedded Engineer II

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement embedded software for real-time systems using C/C++ on microcontrollers and ARM-based processors.
  • Develop and optimize firmware for resource-constrained environments, ensuring high reliability and performance.
  • Perform unit testing, integration testing, and debugging using tools like JTAG, oscilloscopes, and protocol analyzers.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers to define interfaces, drivers, and board bring-up processes.
  • Lead code reviews, mentor junior engineers, and ensure compliance with industry standards such as MISRA C and DO-178C.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues in embedded systems deployed in aerospace and industrial applications.
  • Contribute to agile development processes, including sprint planning and continuous integration/deployment pipelines.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in embedded software development (experience)
  • Proven experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS) such as FreeRTOS or VxWorks (experience)
  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ programming for embedded systems (experience)
  • Experience with microcontroller architectures (ARM Cortex, AVR, PIC) and peripherals (I2C, SPI, UART, CAN) (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with embedded testing tools and debugging methodologies (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline (experience)
  • Certifications such as ISTQB for embedded testing or ARM Accredited Engineer (experience)
  • Experience in safety-critical systems (e.g., aerospace DO-178C, automotive ISO 26262) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop low-level drivers and firmware for embedded hardware platforms
  • Optimize embedded code for power efficiency, memory usage, and real-time responsiveness
  • Conduct thorough testing, including static analysis, unit tests, and hardware-in-the-loop simulations
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with hardware, systems, and quality assurance teams to deliver robust solutions
  • Document designs, APIs, and test procedures adhering to Honeywell's engineering standards
  • Investigate and resolve field issues, performing root cause analysis and implementing fixes
  • Stay current with emerging embedded technologies and contribute to technology roadmaps
