Embedded Engineer II

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement embedded software for real-time systems using C/C++ on microcontrollers and ARM-based processors.
  • Develop and optimize device drivers, firmware, and low-level protocols for sensors, actuators, and communication interfaces like I2C, SPI, UART, and CAN.
  • Perform unit testing, integration testing, and debugging using tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG debuggers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware engineers, systems architects, and quality assurance to ensure seamless system integration.
  • Participate in code reviews, agile ceremonies, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines to maintain high code quality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex embedded system issues in lab and field environments, ensuring compliance with safety and reliability standards like DO-178C or MISRA.
  • Document designs, specifications, and test results to support product lifecycle management and regulatory audits.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of professional experience in embedded software development for real-time systems (experience)
  • Proficiency in C/C++ programming for resource-constrained embedded environments (experience)
  • Hands-on experience with microcontroller architectures (ARM Cortex-M, AVR, PIC) and peripherals (experience)
  • Strong understanding of RTOS concepts and bare-metal programming (experience)
  • Experience with embedded testing tools and methodologies (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Embedded Systems, Computer Science, or equivalent (experience)
  • Certifications such as ARM Accredited Engineer or ISTQB Foundation Level (experience)
  • Experience with aerospace standards (DO-178C, ARP4754A) or automotive (AUTOSAR, ISO 26262) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Architect and develop embedded firmware for IoT-enabled devices and control systems
  • Integrate communication protocols (Ethernet, Modbus, Bluetooth LE) for networked embedded applications
  • Optimize power consumption and performance in battery-operated embedded systems
  • Lead debugging efforts for hardware-software interactions using emulation and simulation tools
  • Contribute to requirements analysis and design reviews for new product features
  • Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge transfer within the team
  • Ensure software meets functional safety and cybersecurity requirements
