Engineering Manager - Commercial Fire

Location: United States (Hybrid)

Reporting to the Director of Fire Safety Engineering, you will manage a team of 10-15 engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, safety, and excellence in a hybrid work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and testing of commercial fire protection systems, including multi-sensor detectors, voice evacuation systems, and integrated building management interfaces.
  • Manage cross-functional engineering teams, setting technical direction, conducting performance reviews, and mentoring staff to achieve project milestones.
  • Collaborate with product management, sales, and quality assurance to translate customer requirements into robust, scalable fire safety solutions.
  • Oversee compliance with regulatory standards (e.g., NFPA 72, UL 268) and drive continuous improvement in system reliability and false alarm reduction.
  • Manage project budgets, timelines, and resources for new product introductions (NPIs) and sustaining engineering efforts.
  • Foster innovation by championing R&D initiatives in AI-driven fire prediction and cloud-connected fire safety platforms.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Fire Protection Engineering, or a related technical field (experience)
  • 8+ years of experience in fire safety systems engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role (experience)
  • Proven track record managing engineering teams in the development of commercial fire detection and suppression products (experience)
  • Deep knowledge of fire safety standards including NFPA, UL, EN54, and FM approvals (experience)
  • Experience with product lifecycle management from concept to commercialization (experience)
  • Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or MBA (experience)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or CFPS (Certified Fire Protection Specialist) certification (experience)
  • Experience with IoT, cloud computing, or AI applications in fire safety systems (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Direct the full engineering lifecycle of commercial fire products, from requirements gathering to validation and release
  • Recruit, develop, and retain top engineering talent while promoting a culture of safety and innovation
  • Conduct risk assessments and failure mode analyses (FMEA) to enhance product reliability and reduce field issues
  • Partner with global supply chain and manufacturing teams to ensure scalable production of fire systems
  • Drive root cause analysis for field failures and implement corrective actions across product portfolios
  • Represent engineering in customer meetings, trade shows, and regulatory audits
  • Champion agile methodologies and digital tools to accelerate development cycles
