Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, test, and commission fire alarm detection and notification systems, ensuring compliance with BS 5839, EN54 standards, and local regulations.
  • Perform routine maintenance, fault diagnosis, and repairs on fire alarm panels, detectors, sounders, and integrated building management systems (BMS).
  • Conduct site surveys, risk assessments, and system design reviews to recommend optimal fire safety configurations.
  • Respond to emergency call-outs, providing 24/7 on-site support for critical fire alarm activations and system failures.
  • Document all service activities, generate compliance reports, and update digital asset management systems for audit readiness.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and clients to deliver turnkey solutions and training on system operation.
  • Stay updated on emerging fire safety technologies, integrating IoT-enabled detectors and AI-driven predictive analytics.

Required Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Fire Alarm Systems or Electrical Engineering (experience)
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a Fire Alarm Technician in commercial/industrial settings (experience)
  • Valid FIA (Fire Industry Association) certification or equivalent (e.g., BAFE SP203) (experience)
  • Full UK driving license and ability to travel internationally (experience)
  • Proficiency in BS 5839 and EN54 standards (experience)
  • Experience with integrated fire and BMS systems (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • HNC/HND in Building Services or Fire Engineering (experience)
  • FiFiRE or IFE (Institution of Fire Engineers) membership (experience)
  • Experience with Honeywell NOTIFIER or ESSER fire alarm systems (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Install and commission fire alarm systems including panels, detectors, call points, and notification appliances to meet project specifications
  • Diagnose and rectify faults using diagnostic tools, multimeters, and programming software for fire alarm control panels
  • Perform annual inspections, testing, and certification of systems, producing detailed reports for client and regulatory submission
  • Integrate fire alarm systems with BMS, access control, and HVAC for comprehensive building safety solutions
  • Provide technical training and handover documentation to end-users and facilities teams
  • Respond to service calls within SLA timelines, minimizing downtime in critical environments
