Inspector Level 1 - FPI (Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection)

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (FPI) processes including pre-cleaning, penetrant application, excess removal, developer application, and UV light inspection on aerospace components such as turbine blades, engine parts, and structural assemblies.
  • Interpret inspection results, document defects using Honeywell's digital quality management systems, and generate detailed reports for engineering review.
  • Conduct dimensional measurements, visual inspections, and basic NDT verifications to ensure compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements.
  • Maintain FPI equipment, chemicals, and workstations in accordance with safety protocols, environmental regulations, and Honeywell's Lean Six Sigma standards.
  • Collaborate with production teams, engineers, and suppliers to resolve quality issues, implement corrective actions, and support root cause analysis using tools like 8D and Fishbone diagrams.
  • Verify calibration of inspection tools and participate in internal audits to sustain NADCAP accreditation and continuous process improvement.
  • Train junior inspectors and adhere to all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) guidelines in a high-volume production setting.

  • Basic proficiency in inspection measurement tools (e.g., micrometers, calipers, borescopes) (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • ASNT Level 1 or Level 2 certification in Penetrant Testing (PT) (experience)
  • Experience with digital inspection reporting systems (e.g., SAP QM, Solumina) (experience)
  • Knowledge of aerospace composites or heat-treated alloys (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Execute full FPI process cycle on production parts, from surface preparation to final defect logging and disposition
  • Perform incoming, in-process, and final inspections to verify conformance to Honeywell and customer specifications
  • Document non-conformances, initiate quality alerts, and support MRB (Material Review Board) processes
  • Maintain accurate records in quality databases and prepare inspection data for customer audits
  • Calibrate and maintain NDT equipment, ensuring compliance with ISO 17025 standards
  • Participate in kaizen events and quality improvement initiatives to reduce scrap and enhance first-pass yield
  • Ensure workplace safety by following lockout/tagout, chemical handling, and PPE protocols
