Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, modeling, and simulation of mechanical components using CAD software like SolidWorks or Creo.
  • Support prototyping and testing of mechanical systems, analyzing performance data to recommend improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers and project managers, to integrate mechanical designs into larger systems.
  • Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations to validate designs.
  • Document engineering processes, prepare technical reports, and present findings during team reviews.
  • Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and root cause analysis for product enhancements.

Summary

As an Intern Bachelors Mech Eng here at Honeywell, you will gain hands-on experience in mechanical engineering, work on real-world projects, and collaborate with experienced engineers to develop innovative solutions. You will report directly to our Mechanical Engineering Manager and you’ll work at our Cambridge Ontario location on an On-site work schedule.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field, with at least two years completed (experience)
  • Strong academic record (minimum GPA 3.0/4.0 or equivalent) (experience)
  • Hands-on experience through coursework, projects, or extracurricular activities in mechanical design or manufacturing (experience)
  • Proficiency in CAD software and basic engineering analysis tools (experience)
  • Availability for full-time on-site work during the internship period (typically 12 weeks, summer or co-op) (experience)
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada (no sponsorship for internships) (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior internship or co-op experience in mechanical engineering (experience)
  • Familiarity with aerospace or industrial automation standards (experience)
  • Participation in engineering competitions (e.g., Formula SAE, ASME design challenges) (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Design and model mechanical components and assemblies using 3D CAD tools to meet project specifications
  • Perform engineering simulations, including stress analysis and thermal modeling, to ensure design robustness
  • Fabricate prototypes using 3D printing, CNC machining, or shop tools, and conduct physical testing
  • Analyze test data, identify discrepancies, and propose design iterations for optimization
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate mechanical subsystems into full product architectures
  • Prepare detailed engineering drawings, bills of materials, and technical documentation per Honeywell standards
  • Support root cause investigations and continuous improvement initiatives using Lean or Six Sigma methodologies
