Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and modeling of satellite subsystems using tools like STK (Systems Tool Kit) and MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Support requirements analysis and traceability for satellite missions, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as CCSDS and ECSS.
  • Participate in system integration and testing activities, including hardware-in-the-loop simulations and environmental testing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including RF engineers, software developers, and project managers, to develop system architectures.
  • Analyze system performance data and generate reports to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Contribute to risk assessments and mitigation strategies for satellite deployment and operations.
  • Document engineering processes and present findings in team meetings and reviews.

  • Strong academic record with a minimum GPA of 3.0/4.0 (experience)
  • Basic understanding of satellite systems, orbital mechanics, and systems engineering principles (experience)
  • Familiarity with engineering tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or STK (experience)
  • Availability for full-time summer internship (12 weeks) or co-op term in Ottawa, ON (experience)
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada (no sponsorship available for internships) (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior coursework or projects in satellite communications, RF systems, or space systems (experience)
  • Experience with requirements management tools like DOORS or Jira (experience)
  • Participation in university CubeSat, rocketry, or aerospace clubs (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Develop and simulate satellite system models to evaluate performance under various mission scenarios
  • Conduct trade studies for subsystem selection, optimizing for power, mass, and reliability
  • Support verification and validation testing of satellite prototypes in lab environments
  • Analyze telemetry data from simulations and propose design improvements
  • Collaborate on interface control documents (ICDs) between satellite payloads and bus systems
  • Assist in preparing technical documentation for design reviews and customer deliverables
  • Participate in agile team sprints to integrate systems engineering tasks with software and hardware development
