Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, engineering, and implementation of control and safety systems for large-scale automation projects, ensuring compliance with international standards like IEC 61511 and ISA-84.
  • Manage internal resources and build high-performing project teams, supervising activities from inception through commissioning and handover.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Project Managers, to define project scopes, timelines, and budgets while mitigating risks.
  • Conduct technical reviews, HAZOP studies, and SIL verifications to guarantee system reliability and safety.
  • Interface directly with clients, end-users, and suppliers, including international travel for meetings and site support.
  • Drive continuous improvement by mentoring junior engineers and integrating emerging technologies like IIoT and AI into automation solutions.

In this role, you will work closely with Project Manager, managing complex Automation projects with Control and Safety Systems. You will lead internal resources and build project team, supervising project team activities throughout project life.   • Bachelor's degree in Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, or a related technical discipline (experience)
  • Minimum 7+ years of experience in automation projects involving control and safety systems (DCS, PLC, SIS) (experience)
  • Proven track record as a lead engineer on complex industrial projects with international exposure (experience)
  • Strong knowledge of functional safety standards (e.g., IEC 61511, SIL levels) and control system architectures (experience)
  • Availability for international travel (up to 20-30%) and on-site support activities (experience)
  • Fluency in English; Italian proficiency preferred for local operations (experience)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering or related field (experience)
  • Certifications such as TUV Functional Safety Engineer (CFSE), ISA CAP, or PMP (experience)
  • Experience with Honeywell's Experion PKS or Safety Manager systems (experience)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the engineering of control and safety instrumented systems (SIS) for automation projects, including hardware selection, software configuration, and loop design
  • Build and supervise multidisciplinary project teams, assigning tasks and monitoring progress throughout the project lifecycle
  • Perform risk assessments, HAZOP analyses, and safety integrity level (SIL) verifications to ensure regulatory compliance
  • Coordinate with customers, end-users, and suppliers via meetings, both virtual and on-site internationally
  • Develop project documentation including P&IDs, cause-and-effect matrices, and test procedures
  • Mentor junior engineers and drive knowledge transfer on best practices in automation and safety systems
  • Support commissioning, startup, and troubleshooting activities at client sites globally
